Hey friends,
It has been a few busy weeks with so much news about the updates of the giant players in the market & their AI products.
As someone whose work and a lot of my business relies on AI tools, even I can’t keep up with all the updates and new software announcements all the time 😄
After Adobe’s release of Firefly 2.0 Beta, I was curious to compare it to Dalle 3 and Midjourney to see the pros and cons of each but from the perspective of a design professional who mainly uses these tools for architecture and interior design projects.
First, let’s talk about what’s new in Firefly 2.0 Beta:
Photorealism: Firefly has improved its ability to render human faces (which Midjourney has been capable of since the release of V5)
Style Input: In Firefly 2.0, users can now input images and references for style, shape, colour etc. (A feature been with Midjourney since the early days 😅)
Prompt Suggestion: Prompt suggestions are available in the Text to Image feature and help you auto-complete your (English-only) prompts to generate content that aligns with your vision
Negative Prompts: Similar to Midjourney’s “—no” parameter, you can now also tell Adobe Firefly to exclude a particular keyword from the results
Save in Cloud: Finally, Adobe Firefly now lets users save their image results into their Adobe Cloud to reuse them in Adobe Express and other Adobe Apps.
Now let’s compare the results in all three platforms for different mediums of drawings/renders.
Masterplan
Prompt: a 2d graphical minimalistic masterplan of london, green walkable streets, little community parks
Firefly
Dalle
Midjourney
Architecture
Prompt: an editorial image of a cultural center building, timber shade panels, streetview, modern stone and brick mix, in london context
Firefly
Dalle
Midjourney
Interior Design
Prompt: an editorial shot of an interior of a dreamy house, bed on water, purple flowers, kelly wearstler lush furniture
Firefly
Dalle
Midjourney
Comparison
Now that we have seen the differences between the results, let’s compare these 3 platforms by their abilities and features (Bad, Fine, Good, Very Good, Great):
Finally, after using Firefly 2, it didn’t occur to me that Adobe would be able to compete with Midjourney or Dalle who are currently leading the market. While Adobe definitely wins in its amazing interface design, it loses big time on quality and prompt accuracy. Firefly 2’s quality reminds me of Dalle 2!
I hope this article was useful to you in finding the best tool to work with and I can’t wait to write to you next week!

📍Things to do In London - Latent Spaces at Illusionaries - Illusionaries bills itself as ‘the UK’s first story-based immersive art experience’, and although the story isn’t a particularly traditional narrative, it’s interesting nevertheless. For the autumn season, they’ve created a whole new show called Latent Spaces, featuring “An Immersive Exploration of Artificial Intelligence and Humanity’s Collective Unconscious”. Basically, it’s three rooms of ever-changing, ultra-trippy digital art. And if you’re into that kind of thing? Then you’ll probably love it.
